55,000 BTU - not 70K - and sick after 3 years
By fishpick
I bought this 3 years ago and it has worked really wel... that is until I went to fire it up this fall (what would be it's 3rd year of operation). The fuel pump had issues - after a bunch of work it's ok again... but the unit itself is showing signs of use (as in the front metal diffuser plate is just about melted through) - this will certainly be the last winter for this unit.Pros: has been reliable, lights quickly, minimal smoke and sootCOns: single speed, loud, not tri-fuel, difficult to refuelIn the end - I'd recommend and re buy this unit - it's cheaper than others and has served me very well to heat a shop/barn for 2 long Upstate NY winters.

I bought mine used, and have run it to winters heating tents for masonry work. This thing has been hammered with insane amounts of dust, which usually kills any other heater, and it just keeps chugging. I'm a little boggled that there's no air filters what so ever, but I'm happy not to change one all the time. Recently it's been having trouble starting in the mornings. It smokes a lot and I have to restart several times. Once it fires right, it's good for the day. I'll get around to cleaning it soon which I'm sure is all that's wrong with it. I still give it five stars, super quiet and burns clean. Cons.......definitely needs a thermostat and the thermal cool down is a little annoying. I've owned and worked in tents with many k1 heaters and this is the only one that doesn't leave me dizzy at the end of the day. Don't smell it on my clothes either. I hope they make a 150,000 btu soon. I'm sold.

I have used " salamander heaters" for 25+ years on the job site. This unit has some great qualities ,such as, low noise, better heat, lightweight. But I really need one that can be some how controlled with a thermostat, cleaner start up,( i use k-1 only) and a non-metal fuel tank which it sits on. If it had these changes i would own 6.
